Vijayapura Trip

Date: 12th Aug to 14th Aug 2017

Visitors: Arun, Shilpi and Harsh

Stay: Hotel Mayura

Duration: 3 days

Famous places to visit: Gol gumbaz, Jod gumbaz, Bara Kaman, Jamia masjid, Ibrahim rauza, Malik-e-Maidan, Sivagiri, Siddeshwara temple, Jahan begum tomb, In-ul-mulk tomb, Gagan mahal, Asar mahal and few other monuments.

We visited Vijayapura known earlier as Bijapur in north Karnataka over the long weekend. We planned for a 3 day trip and many were surprised by what is there to see for three days. Since we had lot of time we explored places around our hotel by walk on first day. Next day we took an auto to visit Sivagiri, Jahan begum tomb and In-ul-mulk tomb which are outside Vijayapura. One last day we took share auto rides which is most common in Vijayapura. Two full days should be ideal to cover all places in and around Vijayapura. We had 7 PM gol gumbaz express to catch. We took metro from JP nagar and reached KSR station in 15 minutes which would have been impossible by cab. Hope they extend the metro till silkboard soon. The train was late by some 15 minutes which is not bad. However we reached Vijayapura late by 45 minutes. Outside the Vijayapura station we spoke to a auto guy to drop us in hotel and then we saw tanga ride available. We took tanga ride till hotel. It was 100Rs for 2.5 kms. Few pot holes and speed breakers gave us a nice bumpy ride experience. We prefer staying in hotels run by state tourism boards. Our experience in Tamil Nadu (Hotel Tamil Nadu) , Andhra (Haritha Hotel) and Karnataka (Mayura Hotel) were always good. We wanted to try eating in different places but settled with Bangalore restaurant opposite to Bara Kaman. We had breakfast and lunch in the same restaurant and same table all days. The most common evening snack we saw was mirchi bajji, vada pav, corn and rusk.
