Trichy Trip: 9. Subramaniya Swamy Temple, Viralimalai

Date: 1st Jan 2016

Visitors: Arun, Shilpi, Harsh, Muthusamy and Vijayalakshmi.

Fee: None.

After visiting Pundarikakshan Perumal Temple, Thiruvellarai we went back to the hotel and rested for a while. Then we left around 4 to Viralimalai subramaniya swamy temple. The hill temple  is located 28Kms from Trichy on Trichy-Madurai Highway. We had to climb 180+ steps to reach the temple. My parents did not climb up thinking it might be hard and they sat down the hill. We regretted leaving them down as the climb was easy and with few stops they could have made it up.
The temple was closed for pooja and we had to wait for a while before darshan. When open like few temples here too people were asked to move faster. Shilpi did not get a good darshan. The view of the highway and the small town from top was very beautiful. When stayed up for some time enjoying the gentle breeze and view. When left we saw the darshan line was empty so we went in again and this time we could pray peacefully.

I had read that the hill and the temple was known for its abundant peacock. Harsh was excited and was hoping to see lots of them but we did not see a single one till we left.

Some pics from the visit.

The archway to the temple.

Steps leading to hill top.

Letter Om and Spear the weapon of Lord Murugan.

View of the town from top.

Couldn't get a good pic of Rajagopuram.

Lord Murugan appearing to Arunagirinadar.

Finally spotted one peacock while going back.

View of the Gopuram.

Another beautiful temple around Trichy that needs to be visited.
