Temples of Rameshwaram

Date: 1st March 2015

Ramanathaswamy Temple:

One of the holy temples for Hindus.  Main temple in Rameshwaram. Situated near the sea shore.
Visit the temple between 5AM - 6 for mani darshanam. Only special ticket of Rs50 allowed. Do not take bath before going for this. Small shiva lingam will be kept out and worshiped.

After this go to the sea and dip in the holy water.
Come back to the temple again for bath in 22 holy theerthas. The general ticket is Rs 25 and they pour water from each theerthas. All 22 are well marked and its around the temple.
There are agents who will offer to pour full bucket of water in all 22 for Rs500. Its not needed and the general queue itself is enough.

Dry yourself after the bath and proceed to worship lord shiva in the main temple.


The temples corridor is the worlds longest.


 Rama Padham (Rama's Feet):

This temple is on top of a hill. This is the highest point in Rameshwaram.

Lord Rama stood on this hill and planned how and where to build the bridge to reach Lanka.

Satchi (Proof) Hanuman temple:

This is near Rama's feet. This is where lord Hanuman said to lord Rama that he saw Sita Devi and gave the ring as proof.
Five face Hanuman temple:

The huge statue for Lord Hanuman is kept here. This is where one can see the floating stones.

The stones are kept in a tank and covered. One can put the finger and push the stones and can see that the stones again come back up and float.
Lakshman Teertham:

This is where Lord Lakshmana took bath to cleanse his sin of killing indrajith, son of Ravana.
Sri krishna temple:

This is a new building. Nothing related to Ramayana. The Krishna Leela is depicted in the top floor. Fee of Rs10. A scary house was converted to temple. One side of the wall still had the ghost paintings.

The below hall was completely made of glass.
Rama Theertham and Temple:

Lord Rama's temple and a pond.
There are many more temples in Rameshwaram which are related to Ramayana. Hire local auto for Rs500 and visit all these places.
